About
I'm not a full-time music teacher. I'm a dad, a creative person, and someone who has loved playing guitar for years. I get how intimidating it can feel to start -- that's exactly why I teach the way I do.
No music theory lectures. No boring exercises that feel like homework. From lesson one, we're working toward songs you actually want to play.
I teach out of Dover, can come to you, or we can do it online. Evenings and weekends work for me, because they probably work better for you too.
Curriculum
We start where you are. No prior experience required, no instrument needed to get started.
G, C, D, Em, Am. The foundation of thousands of songs. You'll have these down faster than you think.
Rhythm is everything. We'll work on patterns that make you sound like you actually know what you're doing.
You pick the songs. Learning music you love keeps you motivated and makes practice feel less like work.
Knowing chords is one thing. Moving between them cleanly is what makes it sound good. We'll nail that.
Just enough theory to understand what you're playing and why -- without turning it into a classroom.
15 minutes a day beats 2 hours once a week. I'll show you how to practice so you actually improve.

Private lesson
Private lesson
First lesson is always free. Come meet me, ask questions, and see if it's a good fit before you commit to anything.
Process
Shoot me an email, we'll set up a free 30-minute intro lesson. No pressure, just guitar. We'll go over what you want to learn and figure out if we're a good fit.
We set a regular schedule that works for you -- evenings, weekends, whatever fits. Each lesson builds on the last, at your pace, not some preset curriculum.
Within a month, you'll be playing recognizable songs. That's the goal. Keep going and you'll be surprising yourself within a few months.
FAQ
Nope. The first lesson we can talk through what to get without spending a fortune. You don't need to buy anything before we meet.
Kids 8 and up, and adults of any age. I enjoy teaching both. Adults often learn faster than they expect because they're self-motivated. Kids do great when they get to pick the songs.
Honestly, online works well for guitar. You can see everything you need to on video. In-person gives me the ability to physically adjust your hand position, which can help early on -- but it's not a dealbreaker. A lot of students prefer online for convenience.
No. We use chord charts and tabs, which are way more practical for guitar anyway. Reading sheet music is a skill, but it's not required to play great guitar.
15-20 minutes a day is plenty. Consistency matters way more than long sessions. I'll give you specific things to work on so practice time is focused, not aimless.
I'm in Dover. Exact address shared when you book. Easy to get to from anywhere in the Seacoast area -- Dover, Portsmouth, Durham, Somersworth, Rochester.
Yes. I travel to students in the Dover/Seacoast area. There's a small additional charge ($10 for 30min, $10 for 60min) to cover my time. Worth it if driving is a hassle for you.
Acoustic is the easiest to start with -- no amp needed, and it builds finger strength fast. But if you want to play electric, we can do that too. I can recommend a budget-friendly starter guitar if you're shopping.
